Our team headed to the Orange County Home Show this past weekend to connect with the homeowners in our service area and the local companies in our community.

This home show takes place every year right in the heart of one of the cities where we have helped many homeowners, specifically in Middletown, NY.

The team had a lot of fun setting up the booth and making sure everything looked polished and ready for the visitors to come to meet us and find out more about our services.

DON'T Do This to Your Crawl Space

3. Avoid using a fan to blow any outside air directly into your crawl space. You should also never use a fan to blow air out of your crawl space either. Power fans can make any mold, moisture, rot, or energy problem even worse!

4. Do not install a liner or concrete on top of your crawl space’s dirt floor without removing the organic matter inside first. The reason being that mold can grow on organic matter, especially if it gets wet.

Stabilizing Failing Walls with the StableLock System in Milton, NY

A homeowner located in Milton, NY with a failing foundation discovered our company thanks to a local kitchen contractor. The kitchen contractor had concerns about the back wall of the house because it appeared to be disintegrating. The kitchen contractor referred us to the homeowner, who then spoke to our appointment center, and got on our schedule for a free estimate. Sure enough, when our specialist Stone headed out to this lovely home near a beautiful apple orchard, he found a serious problem that was lurking underneath the house. The foundation was severely compromised, so compromised in fact that one of the walls in the basement was deflecting a whole seven inches on the bottom part of the wall compared to the top.

After conducting a thorough inspection, Stone determined that not just one, but two walls in this basement needed our StableLock System to help support them both pronto.

Our skilled foreman Eduardo, got to work to diligently address the homeowner’s concerns about these failing foundation walls. First Eduardo and his team installed several of our PowerBraces with rebar running through them in front of both walls. The PowerBraces, which are incredibly strong steel I-beams, help to stop any further damage from happening. This structure would permanently support the new concrete walls once they were poured. In addition to the PowerBraces, we also installed two different types of brackets to help distribute the balance evenly. The bridge brackets went in between the floor joists, and the lever brackets ran in the opposite direction of the floor joists.

Next, Eduardo created a wooden frame entirely made by hand to support the concrete that was to be poured directly in front of these failing walls to prevent more damage from occurring. The wooden framework had to be removed once the concrete was completely dry and set. The concrete truck arrived, and Eduardo and his team made sure the concrete was being poured properly every step of the way. They made sure to continuously hammer against the wooden frame to prevent any concrete from adhering to the wood.

Once the concrete was dry and the PowerBraces were in place, the homeowner was left with two stable structures in front of their once failing walls. Instead of having to tear down the old walls which would have an incredibly massive project, our team restored the integrity of this house by making entirely new walls. The concern about the stone foundation walls crumbling and falling apart had been eliminated.

The firt thing that was done was the installation of WaterGuard waterproofing system with a TripleSafe sump system. A new Cement floor was poured over the existing broken cement floor. CleanSpace was attached to the walls and tucked into the WaterGuard Waterproofing system.

After the new floor was poured we came in and installed a new set factory made stairs with a new platform. We enclosed the platform and made an access cover also. We replaced 2 windows with the Everlast Insert windows and 2 with the Everlast Slider windows so if the customer wanted to they can remove the panes to help put things in the basement.

While doing that We set up the SaniDry Sedona to start the dehumidification process, the walls were sweating so bad it looked like someone was spraying them with a hose. While the Sedona was running the homeowner came down after the first 1/2 hour of the Sedona being on and said he felt a huge difference with humidity. After the waterproofing was done we cut in an Egress window and used the Rockwell Egress Well and a window to meet the stringent national building codes.

After the the Safety issue was complete we installed an electric sub-panel to supply the electric needs of the basement. Then the Everlast Finished Walls, that are warranteed for 50 years. Installed 4 new Everlast Window Inserts. We next installed the Total Basement Finishing Linen Ceiling system with a 30 year warranty a bright white classy look. Within the ceiling we installed many LED Razor lights that are rated for 50,000 hours of use. We added all the required electric outlets and smoke detectors. We also installed the flooring using two types of flooring, The Thermal Dry Elite Plank Flooring for most of the basement and Thermal Dry Tiles for the bathroom. We added new Electric Baseboard heat to the entire space. The one storage area with access to the crawlspace, we used Foamax insulation to brighten and add comfort to the basement. To keep the basement comfortable we installed the SaniDry Sedona, it is a basement miracle machine warranteed for 5 years. The Basement stairs were in good shape, although the customer decided on new prefinished oak treads to top off the basement.

When we were all done the new basement added about 1,050 square feet to the home with a new full bathroom, a sittiing room with an emergency egress, a large family media room a workout section an unfinished laundry room and large storage room with the access to the crawlspace.
